"The Torture Commissioned By The Emperor For The Good Of The People"

This installation was made of piles of offal (lamb hearts and testes) sourced from a halal butcher, pierced with hundreds of straight pins, sewing and curved upholstery needles and wrapped in black thread. It was exhibited as part of the "HOME-LAND" show at Brooklyn’s 49B Studio.

This performance was about the change of meaning in loaded terms like “nation”, “citizen”, “war”, “torture” and others post 9/11 was developed with a group of international, multi-media artists and performed in Oslo, Norway at Kanonhallen, a former munitions storage facility built by Soviet prisoners of war.

This solo consisted of a painstakingly lip-synched performance of Luciano Pavarotti’s version of the aria “Nessun Dorma” from Puccini’s Turandot with the gradual revelation of hand lettered signs in English and Arabic, spelling out the anti-war slogan “We will not be silent.”

This performance was a vaudeville made from the text of the USA Patriot Act, and performed with The Lovely And Talented Miss Toni Silver. It was performed all over New York City, at the Culture Project, the Ohio Theater and the American Livingroom Festival at HERE, regionally at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry and Philadelphia’s Nexus gallery, and internationally at the Projekt Theater in Vienna, Austria.
